COAL PIT Pinot Noir 2009

28 Feb

Grape                              : Pinot Noir
Country of Origin : New Zealand
Region                           : Central Otago
Vintage                          : 2009
Alcoholic Content : 13.5%

Damage to my purse : Got it from wine distributor at S$65

Characteristic :
I must say that the New Zealanders can make good pinot noir.  So far, I have not drunk any average pinot noir from New Zealand.
This wine is full of fruity dark berries and a slight fragrance of rose petal on the nose.
On the palate, it has got raspberries, dark cherries, and a mild ‘fizzy’ feel.  It’s delicious, with satisfying balance of flavours and fine tannins.

MY TAKE: Yes, another fine pinot noir.

DRY RIVER Pinot Noir 2008

3 Dec

Grape                              : Pinot Noir
Country of Origin : New Zealand
Region                           : Martinborough
Vintage                          : 2008
Alcoholic Content : 12.5%

Damage to my purse : Got it at a reasonable price at S$110

Characteristic :
Although the recommendation (from the wine experts) was to consume this wine from 2012 onward, I decided to open it anyway.
The wine is slightly oaky, with hints of berries and black cherries on the nose.
The forward palate is fruity and slightly spicy, followed by very full and rounded taste of black cherries.  It has a long finish, and ends with a slight dry-feel.  A delicate and delicious wine to savour.

MY TAKE: Yes, I love wines from the Dry River.

ROCKBURN Pinot Noir 2009 (Central Otago)

20 Nov

Grape                              : Pinot Noir
Country of Origin : New Zealand
Region                           : Central Otago
Vintage                          : 2009
Alcoholic Content : 14.0%

Damage to my purse : Between S$45-S$50

Characteristic :
– Medium Bodied.
– Quite dry, with taste of dark plums and cherries.
– A lot more character and complexity than most of the pinot noir (which is why this wine has already won  3 trophies at the Australian Boutique Winemakers Awards 2010).
– It tastes better if it is let to breathe for a while.

MY TAKE : This is a good wine to sip.  It has a very long finish that gives you time for reflection (if you know what I mean).  Definitely recommended.
